We asked the Guitarists from the Tuesday Group of Witney Guitar Club some questions about themselves. Here's their response
‘January Jam’ #9
Meet Witney Guitar Club Member - Pete - who has been with the club since March 2025.
What Instruments Do You Play?
Guitar
What’s the best concert you’ve ever attended?
Pink Floyd at the old Wembley stadium late eighties. More than just a concert.
Have you ever played a live gig?
I was a teaching assistant for a while and I played for large audiences there (including a prime minister on one occasion).
Apart from that, I played at the Forum in Tunbridge Wells a few times with musicians that can only be described as "genius"
Have you ever played a bad gig?
I played a small gig in a restaurant just to wind up the guy who owned the guitar, for a laugh. That didn't go down well with him!
Which artist/band/genre(s) do you like to listen to?
I like the Jam, Stiff Little Fingers, soft rock, Italian opera . Anyone who has a good voice really. I have met Rick Buckler he was really nice, as was Jake Burns.
What music styles do you like to play?
Anything that's easy!
What is your favourite Witney Guitar Club song that we play?
I quite liked "A Spaceman Came Traveling". I'm not a fan of the song but musically, it was a great arrangement.
What do you like most about The Witney Guitar Club?
It gets me playing again.
A few years ago I bought my son a guitar and when he got better than me I stopped.
Also, I cut through a nerve on my left index finger which means I have very little feeling in it so I thought I had to stop.
What tips would you tell your younger self, just starting out to play?
What tips would you tell your younger self, just starting out to play?
Little and often. Practice that is!
Tell us something about yourself that people may not know
I am a karate black belt, a qualified scuba diver, I have been a night club bouncer and my uncle is a relatively well known actor who played the lead in the cult horror 'Zombie Flesh Eaters' if anyone has seen it!
Any plans for 2026?
Keep breathing! Oh, and playing.
