Witney Guitar Club 'January Jam’ #4 - Meet Steve

We asked the Guitarists from the Tuesday Group of Witney Guitar Club some questions about themselves. Here's their response

‘January Jam’ #4

Meet Witney Guitar Club Member - Steve - who has been with the club since October 2024.

What Instruments Do You Play?

Guitar, bass, keyboard (badly)

What’s the best concert you’ve ever attended?

Robbie Williams in Manchester 2017, great atmosphere.

Have you ever played a live gig?

Played for friends and family for a singalong often. Actual gig, I was 13 and it was my football trophy night. It went well if I remember. The one and only proper gig.

Have you ever played a bad gig?

Not yet ...

Which artist/band/genre(s) do you like to listen to?

Ed Sheeran, Sam fender, Robbie Williams, Bon Jovi, pretty much anything popular, nothing too heavy.

What music styles do you like to play?

I guess you would describe it as 'Middle of the road'.

What is your favourite Witney Guitar Club song that we play?

Sunshine On Leith (Proclaimers) and Bonfire Heart (James Blunt)

What do you like most about The Witney Guitar Club?

The social side of meeting like minded, similar-ability people.

What tips would you tell your younger self, just starting out to play?

Don't fret if you play it wrong, have another go and hope practice makes listenable.

Tell us something about yourself that people may not know

When I was 14 I was practicing in my garage, playing bass, with my brother on guitar and a friend on drums. Three members of the band Tavares knocked on the garage door and asked if they could play a bit. My bass had never sounded so good.

Any plans for 2026?

Bit of practice, holiday, bit more practice, holiday, maybe progress my career.
