Day #1 of 'The 12 Days of Fretmas'.
Meet Witney Guitar Club Member - Michael - who has been with the Guitar Club since it began, in 2024.
What Instruments Do You Play?
Acoustic, electric & bass guitars.
What’s the best concert you’ve ever attended?
What’s the best concert you’ve ever attended?
Deep Purple - 16th September 1972. One of my first ever concerts and being an impressionable teen then, the excitement and atmosphere watching my favourite band perform at little over arm’s length away has never diminished.
Which is the best gig you've ever played?
I’ve not played at any non-Witney Guitar Club gigs! Live playing has previously been limited to church services (and it’s probably not appropriate to rate them 😀)
Which is the worse gig you've ever played?
As above, but I did have a panic recently before one service when I found that I’d incorrectly transposed some music that we were going to play, and ended up having to play with the capo on fret seven!
Which has been your best Witney Guitar Club gig so far?
Which artist/band/genre(s) do you like to listen to?
I'm fond of seventies Rock & Blues (Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Ten Years After) and Folk Music.
What music styles do you like to play?
Rock, Blues, Folk, & Contemporary Worship.
What is your favourite Witney Guitar Club song that we play?
"Have you ever seen the rain?" By John Fogerty
What do you like most about The Witney Guitar Club?
Meeting up with guys from different backgrounds to play and sing together. Have fun, chat and the common aim to put on a good performance.
What tips would you tell your younger self, just starting out to play?
What tips would you tell your younger self, just starting out to play?
Don’t try to learn too many songs/tunes too soon. Try to stick to just two or three until you can play them reasonably well before trying something new. Otherwise you’ll know how to play loads of songs to a pretty low standard.
What Tell Us something about yourself that people may not know
My wonderful wife gave me one of her kidneys after I suffered chronic kidney disease.
How will you be spending Christmas?
