Witney Guitar Club 'Meet the players'- Meet Paul

We asked the Guitarists from the Tuesday Group of Witney Guitar Club some questions about themselves. Here's their response

‘Meet The Players'

Meet Witney Guitar Club Member - Paul - who joined us in March 2026.

What Instruments Do You Play?

Guitar & Harmonica

What’s the best concert you’ve ever attended?

Son Volt (US alternative country) at The Luminaire (was in Kilburn) 4 Oct 2007 - really small close-up stage, blistering gig!

Have you ever played a live gig?

On harmonica at an art school fancy dress party in the late 80s. Someone applauded. A guy dressed as a Ghost Buster won.

Have you ever played a bad gig?

Harmonica for The Blind Lemons R’nB band in a corner bar with a huge window in Slough. Two men and a stray dog in attendance as buses went past. The lead guitarist threw a huff and turned his back to them.

Which artist/band/genre(s) do you like to listen to?

Springsteen, Steve Earle, Riley Green, Tom Petty, Neil Young, Morrissey - indie, country, folk, blues, rock, post-punk

What music styles do you like to play?

Country, rock, folk, indie, post-punk

What is your favourite Witney Guitar Club song that we play?

Take it easy - especially when it seems to speed up!

What do you like most about The Witney Guitar Club?

Good fun and an improving experience of playing in time, in tune, and learning with other people.

What tips would you tell your younger self, just starting out to play?

Nothing can take the place of persistence and practice - and get a good tutor who is interested in your playing, not theirs.

Tell us something about yourself that people may not know

I have been ejected from the same blues band on three occasions 😬.
